Notes from Nashville...
I’m writing this in the trendy lobby of The Moxy Hotel in Nashville, taking a few days off between writing conferences (Killer Nashville—which was awesome—and the upcoming Bouchercon).
The push to share my soon-to-release novel, I KNOW SHE WAS THERE, is on (pre-order it here)! Very exciting (if just a tad bit exhausting). My husband flew in to enjoy some live music and we’ve been staying up way too late each night experiencing the incredible offerings of world-class musicians.
Imposter Syndrome in 'Music City'
As those familiar with “Music City” know, famous country music stars have bars where they showcase new talent.
These up-and-comers are inspiring, with a level of artistry that is, with few exceptions, outstanding. It reminds me of the struggle all artists endure just to share their projects and passions with the world. As I listened to jaw-dropping performances, I ruminated on how easy it is to become overwhelmed by the vast amount of talent out there and allow Imposter Syndrome to wedge its way into every thought.
Step up to the Mic, Fellow Creatives!
My fellow creatives, don’t dwell in those shady spaces. Step up to the mike, so to speak, and offer support and praise to those you admire.
Every time I put myself out there and try something new (like joining an expert panel at a writing conference, complimenting an author I adore, or sitting at a table of strangers and striking up a conversation about writing), my heart overflows. The joy of creating fuses with the satisfaction of engaging with others: experiencing new perspectives, sharing what I’ve learned, and enjoying the new connections that blossom.

Let’s talk about the things we love—or don’t—about the writing process, the creative community, or just being a part of the human race! Thoughts?
